What do actress Glenn Close, playwright Tony Kushner and Houston dancer-choreographer Dominic Walsh have in common? They have all been honored by the Princess Grace Foundation. Last fall, Dominic was awarded the 2008 Princess Grace Award in Choreography for Mozart, the final installment in his Trilogy of dances about the heavenly composer with a certain naughtiness and irreverence, whom I like to think of as Wolfie.
Dominic Walsh discusses the evolution of the trilogy and his love for Mozart in this interview, and he also describes how Antarctica inspired the set design, as well as those icy and Baroque-y costumes by dancer-designer Domenico Luciano in this excerpt.Dominic Walsh Dance Theater's contemporary ballet, The Trilogy: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, makes its Houston Premiere: April 30, May 1, May 2; 7:30pm; Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. 713.315.2525 (Tickets)
Wolfie would be proud. Afterall, he loved to dance!
